Messy Desk

Yep. Entropy is still working.

I’ll be posting comics from my first book, Standing on the Edge of Real Life, for a while as I work on pulling an Etsy shop together and finishing Q is for Quarantine. Standing on the Edge was self-published in 2011 as a college credit project, and the comics span two years of work. I hope you enjoy seeing how they evolved!

And now, we travel back to a time when the Mice had whiskers….

Comics for Credit

Here’s a decade-old comic for you.

During my senior year of college, I approached my drawing professor about doing a cartooning independent study for credit towards my art minor. I would create a self-published comic book for the study, and mold Lab Mice into a fully-fledged cartoon at the same time. The professor was a comic book enthusiast, and agreed to the project. My “textbooks” were How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way by Stan Lee and John Buscema, and The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book by Bill Watterson.

Naturally, I drew a few comics about the experience.

What Was Napoleon’s First Name?

During a conversation with my husband and a friend, I suddenly couldn’t remember a relevant fact. “What was Napoleon’s first name?” I asked. I was met with a long silence, and wide-eyed stares.

Bonus: I have a degree in history.

We began speculating on what might have happened, had I asked such a question in an actual history class, particularly with certain professors (hint: I would no longer be here to ask foolish questions), and this comic was born.
