Inktober 17. Journal

Another prompt from Inktober 2024: 17. Journal.

“BURN EVERYTHING” was the advice of one of my history professors, while describing some of the rather embarrassing journals and diaries that have been left (intentionally or otherwise) to posterity. I sometimes think that the study of history is really just an excuse for finely-aged gossip.

Attic Greek

This is probably also the location of many textbooks on the subject.

I wasn’t going to label the boxes, and then thought–what would the Greek heroes/heroines keep in their attics? They collect a lot of souvenirs on their adventures. Rummaging around in search of your old discus would be a perilous adventure in itself, among boxes containing Medusa’s head and Pandora’s “box” (jar).

What Was Napoleon’s First Name?

During a conversation with my husband and a friend, I suddenly couldn’t remember a relevant fact. “What was Napoleon’s first name?” I asked. I was met with a long silence, and wide-eyed stares.

Bonus: I have a degree in history.

We began speculating on what might have happened, had I asked such a question in an actual history class, particularly with certain professors (hint: I would no longer be here to ask foolish questions), and this comic was born.
